A good marriage is good for your health

Good news for those thinking about getting married.
  • Having a spouse can lower your risk of heart disease by 5%.
  • Married couples help each other to eat better, exercise, avoid smoking and alcohol. They serve as a buffer for stressful life events for each other.
  • Spouses also encourage each other to go to doctor appointments and notice changes in their partners body.
  • The relationship between marriage and lower odds of vascular diseases is especially pronounced before age 50.

The CBS website says the study surveyed 3.5 million men and women for cardiovascular diseases -- and the benefits were observed among both men and women.

And a different study featured by The Huffington Post also highlighted the benefits of being married.

'Happily married couples are more likely to enjoy better mental and physical health than their not-so-happy friends. ... And those in good marriages are more likely to rate their health as better as they grow older.'

Amazon may be in favor of Online Sales Taxes

The article talked about the major challenge and benefit of requiring a sales tax to be charged and collected by online retailers. The article diverged a little onto talking about the political and socioeconomic reasons a large online retailer like Amazon might be supporting the tax.
The major challenge in charging and collecting the sales tax on e-commerce transactions is the complexity of dealing with the multiple sales tax rates; which often vary by county and city as well as State, both in rates and in what is actually taxable. Part of the issue is the fact that counties and states differ in both the rates and the items that are tax exempt. The complexity of the project is challenging, but will eventually be surmounted.
The major benefit of sales taxes on e-commerce is the potential revenue that governments could earn. In the early days of e-commerce, the costs of trying to implement and enforce sales taxes far outweighed the benefits. But the increase of the value of potential taxes created by e-commerce means that tax collectors really do not want to see that potential revenue go uncollected.

The government is trying to explore ways to tap into this potential revenue stream. It will be some time before all the parts are in place to implement an online sales tax. Aside from the need for technical innovation, is the fact that new taxes are always unpopular. Public opinion may be the last bulwark against new e-commerce taxes.

A handy writers wheel

Ever tried to write something and get frustrated because you can't think of a more discriptive word? Here is a little something a friend gave me my freshman year.

We all have a worldview. It will vary slightly depending on how we were raised, what we are going through, and what we think of the future. Even though this isn't my blog about Spiritual things, I believe that all three parts (Spiritual, Mental, and Physical) are interrelated. Even though I may disagree with some ideas and writings, I will still try to keep an open mind to what I hear and I will attempt to show it through my worldview.
